“Holguin said the pandemic illustrates why the census is so important: because people need health and other services that are supported by federal funding.” Census data determines how billions of federal dollars are divvied up among states, which then fund a variety of priorities such as public schools, free and reduced-price lunches, community health centers, Head Start child care programs and roads and highway projects.
